Prestbyterian Church Ordains Openly Gay Minister
The Prestbyterian Church is ushering in a new era by allowing gay and lesbian ministers to be ordained.
On Saturday at Madison’s Covenant Prestbyterian Church, 56-year-old Scott Anderson became the first gay minister to be ordained under the new guidelines of the church.
It was a day Anderson didn’t think he’d ever see.

“I left the ministry 21 years ago and I never thought this day would come in my life time,” said Anderson.
After two decades Anderson’s title officially changed to Reverend on Saturday.
Surrounded by family and friends in Madison, Reverend Anderson made history as the Presbyterian Church’s first openly gay minister.
“By this act today, the Presbyterian Church is living what it believes,” said Anderson. “We are witnessing with some integrity what we proclaim to be true about God.”
For 8 years, Anderson had been serving as pastor of a church in California.
